Executive Summary

 

Metro Atlanta, Georgia

Over the past twenty years, Ms. Broadway has worked with organizations that serve the social and economic needs of underrepresented groups through program management and administration. In 2003, she served as a teacher assistant for the STARS program at the Center for the Visual Impaired in Atlanta, GA.  The STARS program was an arts-based program that served children with disabilities. Through this program, Ms. Broadway heightened her level of cultural sensitivity by learning how to surpass her feelings of empathy and focus on fulfilling the kids desire to just have fun!  The same year, Ms. Broadway was accepted into the Teacher’s Training Institute at Atlanta Ballet where she was trained to integrate the arts with cognitive development curriculums for children and adolescents.

In 2009, Ms. Broadway independently developed and implemented a research-based Dance Therapy program at Elks Aidmore Children's Center, a group home facility for at-risk girls, ages 11 – 21 in Conyers, GA. This program was accepted into the Georgia State University’s Undergraduate Research Conference in 2010, where Ms. Broadway shared the impact of therapeutic arts programs among disadvantaged youth.  

 Washington, D.C.

During Ms. Broadway’s time in Washington, D.C., she worked as the Operations Fellow for an organization who serves teen survivors of human trafficking, called FAIR Girls in 2011. In her role she secured in-kind donations from local sponsors, supported the jewelry economic program, and built lasting relationships with the survivors she worked with.  While working at the American Psychiatric Association from 2014 - 2017, Ms. Broadway implemented a mentorship program for new hires in conjunction with the leadership initiative to advance the organization onboarding process. She also led diversity initiatives and organized monthly observance events as a member of the Diversity at Work committee.

 Tokyo, Japan

Ms. Broadway moved to Tokyo, Japan in 2017, where she served as the Assistant Director of the Overseas Diversity & Equity Programs for the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), Asia Division. During her tenure at UMGC, she built the DEI infrastructure for the division, served as an advisor for senior leadership, and established a working partnership with the local military. Ms. Broadway received 6 coins of appreciation from Yokota Air Base squadrons, a letter of appreciation from the 374th Wing Commander, and Community Service award from the University of Maryland Global Campus. In addition to her role with UMGC, Ms. Broadway also served as an adjunct professor, and actively committed her time to supporting holistic wellness causes within the military community.

Augusta, Georgia

At Augusta University (AU), Ms. Broadway, served as the Deputy Chief Diversity Officer who led 3 strategic initiatives and coalitions in tandem, while implementing multiple workflow infrastructures, and facilitating Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) trainings within the first 90 days of service. She also co-authored the university’s strategic plan, DEI blueprint. This document serves as a resource guide for 11 colleges across campus, which includes strategic actions from the 2022 - 2027 AU Strategic Plan and DEI best practices. This tool enables each department to readily identify which DEI strategic action(s) that algins with their department and how to implement the best practice(s) outlined in the blueprint.
